Default Mini 12 Bloat - How to remove all the stuff running automatically - 08-02-2009, 02:11 AM

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could write a step by step list on how to remove all these extra softwares that are running on my laptop in the bottom right hand corner?

Amongst other things, I have "Java update", "Computer up to date", Norton Internet Security, Realtek Audio Manager, Indexing complete, Local Area Connection (a network cable is unplugged), Bluetooth, Intel Graphics accelerator, Bluetooth and Wireless LAN enabled.

Also, in regards to Norton, I would like to uninstall it and install AVANTI. Is this relatively painless?

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, this bottom right hand part of the screen often has balloons pop up that demand that I click them before being able to continue my work. Usually this is related to either Microsoft or Windows updates. Is there a way to disable ALL balloon popups in this corner?

Thanks so much for any help, as it would be most appreciated.

What OS are you on? Vista, XP? Basically you just need to work out what you dont need, open teh control panel - click add/remove programs (or uninstall a program on vista), and start uninstalling. With something like Norton, you are probably going to have to stop the services first, which you can also do from teh control panel under admin tools - services. If you have a windows installation disk, you best bet is probably a clean install though. Also, to disable the windows/ms update warnings you need to change your settings for your automaitc up-dates. Which should be under your programs dir on the start menu...

Some other things you may want to get rid of are the Dell Dock, the dell remote connect, basically anything Dell! Although you want to keep realtek audio manager as that controls your sounds...

Strongbad, thank you for responding.

I'm running XP.

I'm a little uncertain about if there's a separate way to remove something from that bottom right part of the screen, but still have the option to run the program if I want to.

I found the uninstall options under add/remove programs, but that seems to get rid of them forever. I'm ok with that, but is there a way just to stop them automatically running?

I've turned off automatic updates. Are there any other balloons that popup and any ways of getting rid of them?

Thanks so much!

on xp open run. then type msconfig and select the tab that says startup. uncheck anything that you dont want to start with windows and restart the pc. all is good after that. then go into add\remove programs in the control panel and remove anything you will not use.
