I've installed Microsoft Streets and Trips 2004 (An old CD-Rom I had..) and it runs fine! It doesnt have any GPS Capabilities, or atleast I dont have a USB GPS device for it. But it work good!

This is offline right? I want to be able to just find directions. I know Google Earth requires a network connection to work properly...

Streets and Trips (any version) is off-line mapping, but can get construction data via the network and will work with a GPS receiver.

Agreed. Can't go wrong with MS S&T for basic mapping. The 2009 release even has turn by turn announcements with automatic re-routing. Runs between $30-$40 depending on the retailer. Compatible with any GPS unit capable of NMEA-0183 output. A full install needs about 1 GB of storage.

It is "offline", and according to "Add or Remove Programs" it takes up 965mb of space as I did the full install. I do however stand corrected on the GPS thing apparently you CAN have aGPS on the 2004 version, I thought it was just on 2005 versions and higher, I might have to look into a GPS device!

Just download this and I LOVE it. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have 2009 version. I am curious though, can you update the maps? In IL we did a big project where we expanded I355 to go south of I55 and previously it didn't. The map still shows I355 as stopping @ I55. This can send people all over the place.

Streets & Trips doesn't update the maps within a version unfortunately.

Heh, I didn't even look that far south yet. 355 still does end at 55. Damn. My truck's Tom Tom is also missing that segment of 355. Fun is watching it figure out my route when I drive that section

Check out the Garmin Mobile PC software ... which is pretty much a 10 inch GPS that's cheaper then a lot of the smaller Garmin GPSs out there.

I love my Dell Mini 10v.
