Default How Much Junk On The Mini 10V - 06-21-2009, 08:38 PM

A friend of mine wants to get the Mini 10V but is afraid there is a ton of extra software loaded on the Mini 10 that she will have to delete. This isn't a big deal to me but it sure is to her....So how much is on the XP Mini 10V that you just have to delete, like Microsoft Office Trial, Power Point Trial, Music Trials and so on. Dell is known for this stuff.

Norton or McAfee (which one you get seems to depend on the phase of the moon or something) 30-day trial is about the only trial software and Norton gives you an option/prompt to uninstall the first time you boot the computer.

Windows Live Essentials is included (not a trial, but you could uninstall it).

Believe it or not, I think Dell has been listening and is including less junk than they used to.

Forget about what comes on the computer. Load up Windows 7 and enjoy a really sweet netbook.

Although Dell has been installing less junk than they used to, if your friend is worried about removing apps on a computer, there's other issues if it's that big of a deal.

Just bought a 2nd Mini10V with XP installed. My other Mini is hacked to OSX. I'm running XP fine on it but I find McAfee intrusive & annoying. When I first booted up I declined the option (30 trial only) but it opened & ran anyway. Hate that. And surprise! There is no visible way/option to uninstall it anywhere on the program! How can I uninstall Mcafee safely?

Plug in an ssd, put windows 7 on it and you've got a deliciously smooth machine.
