This has been talked about in other areas so I thought I would address it here in the hardware section, get the most detail possible.

So the word is that we can install a 2GB module in the 10V, has anyone done it? What type of chip is it? What brand are you using?

I don't think anyone has one yet in order to try. It looks like they should be shipping beginning of June, so we'll definitely know soon enough. I know that based on the service manual, it's a pain to do, but thankfully only a one time deal.

It is interesting that they put an access door at the bottom for the WLAN and WWAN mini cards but not for a memory slot. You would think that they do the opposite.

I am not sure if i completely trust the service manual just yet.

I ordered a 2GB DIMM along with my 10v. I'm pretty confident it will work.
I have no reason to distrust the service manual. The 1010 manual was accurate in this regard.

Did you get it from Dell or elsewhere? If so where and what price?

I ordered it from Dell, along with the 10v. I chose the one they sell for the Mini9. It was $25 with free shipping. Regular price is $29.99 plus $5.99, but there is apparently a sale on memory.

I also used a $15 off coupon for the 10v. So, total price for a new 10v and 2GB DIMM, plus sales tax, shipping and CA environmental fee was $354. Not bad, as I paid $334 for a refurb 1010 without the extra RAM.(Of course, the 1010 wouldn't have been able to use it anyway.)

Ah I see. I didn't see an option for the chip, the mini9 chip explains it. Not in a big hurry, I dont get my 10v till after 6/1 anyway. I want to hear what everyone says about performace jump.

Let us know how it works out and what is Dell saying about your delivery date? ARe you in the US?

I wouldn't go by Dell's delivery date. I have always received anything I have ordered from Dell WELL before the date on the order page. You may just have your 10v in a week or so, especially if you ordered it with no options.

...look around on this board for suggestions to speed up your Mini. Mine was slow when it arrived...slow only when surfing the 'net wirelessly (and on battery). The Mini comes set up to conserve battery life and it does that by turning down the power to the wireless. There's a setting somewhere to make it work better...I forgot where it is but will be finding out again as my new one is set to arrive soon.
