Default Screwdrivers/Monitor Question - 12-20-2013, 10:47 PM

My monitor has a red streak that occasionally appears permanently. This can be fixed by roughly tapping the back of the screen. If I press down on the screen it shows the line and gets worse and changes colors with more pressure. I am assuming this is a hardware issue and wanted to see if it was a loose cord or something of that nature.

What screwdrivers do I need to disassemble the laptop?
Can someone save me the trouble and diagnose this issue?

Lastly, maybe I should do some upgrades instead of purchasing a new laptop. What do you guys think? I need a new battery and would just like to upgrade the very small hard drive. I would just be using it for storage and school work. I sold my desktop so it is the only computer I have at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

The Dell site has disassembly instructions. Typically you need small Philips screwdrivers. Unfortunately, the symptom you have is one that is not easily fixed other than by replacing the display. That isn't all that difficult and people have found sources for the display online at reasonable cost.
