Default hard drive question - 11-24-2013, 08:33 PM

I have just freshly installed win 7 on the c drive of a dell mini 1011. The HD has been previously partitioned but the data on the hd is no longer required. The partitions showing up are Disk1 Basic MBR 149.05 GB, C:Windows 7 (NTFS) and D: Storage (NTFS) 29.30 GB.

Disk1 does not show up in windows explorer and I don't understand why it is using nearly half the space on the hard drive. I can delete drive D and expand C into it, but if I try to delete Disk1 it says I will not be able to boot the computer.

Can anyone tell me what this Disk1 is please?

Do the install again. This time, select the "Custom" or "Advanced" option and delete ALL existing partitions. Then select to install into the unpartitioned space. The install will create a small hidden partition (about 200MB) to aid in booting and recovery, and you'll have C for the rest.
