Default Dell mini GMA drivers (windows 8) - 04-09-2012, 01:50 AM

After a windows 8 update the resolution went from 800x600 to 1024x600, still short of the 1024x768 that require all win 8 apps. Should I delete windows 8 now or wait to windows 8 to accommodate a lower resolution? Right now is totally useless.

I know this is an old thread, but I just spent days on this problem and found a solution.

If you google this "Windows 8 Metro Style Apps running on Low Screen Resolution Netbooks", it should be the first page(I can't post links since I am a newbie).

Here is the part you want:
How to increase screen resolution of a Netbook

Windows 8 on Dell Mini

Like most of the netbook, my Dell Mini 10 (1012) is having maximum screen resolution of 1024 x 600 px which is lower than the minimum required resolution to run Metro Apps of Windows 8. There is a simple modification requited in Windows registry to let you increase the screen resolution of any system. Use the below mentioned steps to increase screen resolution.

Hit Win + R keys together on your netbook’s keyboard
Type “regedit” without quotes in the dialogue box
Locate the following location in Registry window,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E 968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E 968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001
In both of these locations, find “Display1_DownScalingSupported” in the DWORD list
Right-click on the DWORD and select modify, change the value from 0 to 1 for that DWORD
Restart your netbook after closing the registry window
Now open screen resolution window (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution) on your netbook and there you can see more option to choose from. For example, you may choose 1024 x 768 px
Select that resolution and apply the changes

As now you netbook’s display resolution is equal to the minimum required screen resolution for running Metro Style apps of Windows 8, you may run the apps without any problem
Worked perfect for me! Now if I could just get minecraft to work, I would be set.
