Default Mini 1010 recovery disc for the 1011? - 03-07-2012, 06:37 AM

hi, I'll try and keep this simple! I have been given a 1011 with no recovery disc and it has had a nasty virus, consequently something is out of whack with the registry (I think). I have managed to do a lot of clean up work with it and it is at least functioning (which is more than it was), my partner has the 1010 and he has the original recovery disc and the XP Service pack 3 Home Edition disc, can I use that to recover the 1011 or will it kill the Mini?
It's probably a really dumb question so apologies if so, but if you don't ask you don't find out!!

Thanks in advance,

NO, you can not... 1st of all its illegal....sorry, that license your friend has allows him to install the OS on 1 of HIS systems only you would need to purchase a restore CD/DVD from Dell in order to do what you want or purchase a copy of Windows 7 locally or download from are not legally not allowed to give Windows to someone else and therefore this issue may not be discussed on this forum.....sorry again

PS. Welcome to the forum

BTW: I do not think a copy of a 1010 restore CD would work anyway because the 1010 has features that the 1011 does not have such as the multi-touch pad and the video drivers are probably different being as where the 1010 will do 1366x768 and the 1011 will not and the 1010 has an HDMI port and the 1011 has a VGA port, there may be other differences too......
