Hi guys!

I am awaiting for my Dell Mini 10v to come from the UK. It'll come with 1GB of RAM installed on it. I really want to upgrade the memory from 1GB to 2GB when it comes.

I searched a little bit and I found that a good solution is the

Kingston HyperX 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Laptop Memory Model KHX4200S2LL/2G

Is it true that it will be the best choice? Does anyone use this memory module for her/his Dell Mini 10v? Are there any better choices out there?

And something else. Does Dell Mini 10v only works its memory at 533MHz ?...

Last question is, does the Kingston HyperX 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Laptop Memory Model KHX4200S2LL/2G comes WITH and WITHOUT heatsink ? Cause while I was searching on the internet I saw pictures of the modules with and without heatsink... weird...

you can certainly run faster memory (667mhz,800mhz) but it will not run faster than 533mhz also there are no heat sinks on the memory used in the Minis, also make sure it is DDR2...DDR3 will not work at all, also dont expect the upgrade to 2gb to make a huge difference because it wont, it will enable you to run more apps simultaneously but thats about all, it will not make the system any faster

BTW: Crucial is a another good source for memory

I know that I will not see any difference regarding the speed of the netbook, but I'm sure that it will be more flexible, opening various applications all at once.

For the "heat-sink issue" I see that the Kingston HyperX KHX4200S2LL/2G[/URL] memory hasnt any. Is it right?..

I also found G.Skill memory (CL4) which HAS heatsink. I will also check Corsair. Does Corsair's memory modules have heatsinks ? I dont want my netbook to be very hot. I hate hot.

I have a dell mini 10v I do alot of my reports and uni work on it, and tbh I have found it to very suitable when doing work - you can actually get annoyed if you try and distract yourself by going on youtube or something cause it lags :P

Anyways, I found the 1GB gets used up quickly by firefox, word and pdf viewers - so i bought this ram from amazon:
2GB, 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module.
I really hope this works because it costs £25, which is quite pricey. Make sure you get a proper screw driver because most of mine dont fit exactly into the screw - so still not installed it yet.

as I said already in my post...the memory in the Mini does not use heatsinks.....and BTW your Mini is gonna be hot no matter....there is no fan....they run hot....you want cooler then buy a netbook chillpad for underneath it

chillpad Haha yea my 10v gets quite hot, specially underneath. From my observations while using the usual programs and doing proper work such as word processing and using the browser like firefox I find it is around 60-65 degrees. As soon as you do anything CPU intensive such as flash, or maybe watch a video in HD? then I found it gets to about 80 degrees and a bit more.
So yea nothing you can do about that i think in terms of the hardware.

I just got my mini 10v from CL. Bought the Corsair 2GB DDR2 800MHZ from NE and it works fine. It still runs at 533MHZ though.

I don't see any sort of heatsink in there when I opened it up to install. Even the CPU heatsink is just a piece of metal integrated to the plastic cover with some heat transfer tape.

During conversion to Mac, I put the Mini on a laptop fan cooler. It helped reducing the heat.

I simply chose the Kingston HyperX 2GB module, cause it has fast clocking (3-3-3-8).

does it worth it?...

Do you know if it is compatible with Dell Mini 10v (1011) ?

I am ready to buy it from Newegg, so... any I'll appreciate any advice.

Ok, I purchased the Kingston HyperX 533MHz 2GB module. One word --> Fast.

I am pretty satisfied with the result!
