Default A06 to A04 brick? - 05-03-2011, 06:12 AM

First post and its a doozy.

I was trying to downgrade the BIOS from A06 to A04. I used the method in this forum.

It beeped a few times and looked liked it went through the sequence and then the screen just powered off. I let it sit for awhile (15 to 20 minutes) and nothing was happening. The power light was a steady white. Like a moron, I unplugged it.

Now nothing will work. Even plugged in, the light does not turn on. How f'd is my Mini?

there are posts here about unbricking a Mini, you can search the forum, some have had success others now have very expensive paperweights.....guess you missed the posts about "If it works dont touch it", too late now, but I have told so many people here about messing with the BIOS and people just do it anyway.......Good Luck to ya

PS. Welcome to the forum...its too bad your 1st post had to be about this......

I've flashed a few BIOS' before and they didn't take more than 10 minutes so I wasn't really expecting this to last beyond 15 - 20 minutes.

The reason I was flashing was because I was getting the "Warning!!! Battery not recognized" (or something to that effect) message and read that A04 could solve that problem. Although after pressing "F1", the battery icon in the sys tray DID identify the battery correctly...it just wouldn't charge it.

Will swapping the MB get me anywhere? I only spent $100 on this so I'm not THAT much into it but if a MB will work, I'll pick up a parts on on CL.

I think following the instructions on unbricking are your best options now, a new mobo seems un-necessary.....the reason the battery couldnt be recognized is it because its a 3rd party battery?......I recommend only buying from Dell to avoid these issues

Well I suppose the good news is that it is not perma brick. I actually had it set on USB boot first so I tried flashing the recovery files to the USB stick and then trying to see if I could flash the BIOS that way.

I'm guessing I did not have Legacy turned on so it didn't work.

Any way to do this with a USB drive vs. buying a freaking floppy drive?

I think there are instructions on the board (not sure)...but I do kinda remember reading somewhere that a floppy drive is necessary

You used the special keys to get it into BIOS recovery right? How to unbrick a Mini 10v using a floppy drive!

Also, check the unbrick thread in the 1010 forum. Someone recently got it to work with a USB flash drive, so it might work on a 10v as well.
