Default Wireless/Cabled connection issue - 03-21-2011, 07:12 PM

First time poster on here, but I am not a "noob" and did all of the searching that I could find.
My Home Network:
Wireless-G Broadband Router (WRT54G2)
My Mini 10v Setup:
Inspiron 1011
Processor Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz
Processor Speed 1.56 GHz
Memory (RAM) 1024 MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Operating System Version 5.1.2600

Dell Wireless WLAN card utility is enabled and when you run a Connection Diagnostics, this is what you get.
Radio--------------Passed
Association--------Passed
Authentication-----Failed

When you run the Hardware Diagnostics, everything passed.

The F2 Wireless is Enabled.

Since I purchased this 2 years ago I have been unable to connect to my network. I have tried changing settings on the router, and on the mini and the mini is the only laptop that's in the house that won't connect to the wireless.
When on vacation last year, the mini connected to the network where we were staying without any issues.
Just today, I plugged in an eithernet cable and now I can't connect through that.

What would make me happy? Having this mini connect to wireless all the time! Please help.

Have you set up any other wireless devices recently? ("recently" being since you bought the Mini)

Maybe your router has MAC filtering enabled, where only "known" devices are allowed to connect. You'd need to add the Mini 10v's WiFi adapter to the router's list of allowed devices.

I dunno about the wired problem, though.

Specifically, how would I go about doing this?

To figure out how to add a device to your router's list of allowed devices: you'd have to consult your router's documentation... or just poke around in the web admin pages 'til you find it

...but if you've added new wireless devices without trouble, then you know that the router's not blocking unknown devices (MAC filtering is disabled).

I dunno what to suggest next.

To test that the hardware works, I'd boot into Linux (on a Flash drive or CD or something). But the WiFi drivers might not be included by default. They're easy to install... if you know your way around Linux. If you don't know your way around, you might not succeed.

I'm also not afraid to start breaking stuff, so I might just uninstall everything related to wireless/network drivers in Windows and start from scratch.

Reflex, I was thinking about starting to uninstall everything (whole OS) but then remembered that since it doesnt have a CD drive... I didnt want to go through the trouble of doing this. So I am honestly at wits end, I have a mini paperweight... Time to consult the pros and pay out the a$$.

I was able to get the wired connection working again, it seems that the cable that I was using has gone bad (not sure how that is possible.)
I can not connect via wireless still... Any suggestions?
