Default Are they the same? - 11-19-2010, 07:49 PM

Hi, im new on here. I was wondering if the Dell Mini 10v is the same as the inspiron 1011. I only ask this as i want to install OS X on the dell and do not want to buy the wrong one! It also appears to be that when searching for 'Dell Inspiron 1011' on the internet, more stores seem to have the inspiron 1011 for sale (I know that the product is now discontinued) than the mini 10v.

Also, I have read a tutorial on installing OS X, but it only says '10.6' install, not '10.6.X'. If i were to buy the most recent retail version of OS X (10.6.3 for example) would the installation process still work.

Any help would be apppreciated.
Thanks
Matt

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong area.

yes & yes...the 1011 and the 10v are exactly the same, the Model is the 1011 and the model name is the Dell Mini 10v...when it first came out there was the Mini 10 (1010) then they came out with the Mini 10v (1011) the 'v' was supposed to mean 'value'....and the 10.6.x version should work fine, but please direct and other questions regarding the Mini 10v/OSX install to that forum on this site...Thank You

Thanks for the speedy reply. I am a bit of a 'noob', do you think that the install is fairly easy to do as long as all steps are followed to the letter?
Thanks

Yes, it is pretty easy, but you really should go down to the OS X section and ask people there who have done the install.

I have recently bought a refurbished 1011 and have got 10.6.5, Win7 and Ubuntu 10.10 running fine on it.
