Default spray paint 10v - 11-09-2010, 05:42 PM

I was curious as to if anyone has spray painted the lid of their 10v? If so what did you use?

I want to get another 10v as my last one suffered an accident...but the only somewhat cheap ones I can find are the nickelodeon ones.

its easier to get a skin for it will look nicer and there are hundreds available..just google it, there are some sites that will even custom make you a skin with your favorite photo on it, I think that http://www.uniqueskins.com/Categorie...ok+Skins/Dell/ is one of them and its only like $15 (USD)

But won't the lid (in this case slime) show through? I was under the assumption that most skins aren't completely opaque unless you have a black lid.

Default Painting lid - 11-10-2010, 07:01 PM

Ive seen lids for sale on ebay...
if you do go down the road of spraying remember to find out the sort of paint and lacquer already on it , as adding cellulose onto water based or vise versa spray could leave you with a crazed or cracked affect. lot of effort and work. You would be safer buying a new lid or skin. or even a leather case perhaps. There are some very good quality looking carbon fibre ones out there all shaped and laser cut to the mm.. . http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Mini-Lapt.../dp/B002NVH7AA

dell worked on my 10v when i first got it. and when i got it back they had scratched the lid up. and did something to the keyboard to make it look all wavy for that matter. anyway i called and complained and they sent out the new parts for free. as i had already put a rockstar sticker over the scratched lid. i was happy and had an extra. so i painted the new one they sent. i masked off the dell logo. then you have to scuff the lid first with 1000grt paper. prime, then finish coat. mine is metallic green. and it came out great. but then again i am a union painter too. so experience never hurts. but if you got the time try it.

Krylon Fusion paint works great, it's made for painting plastics.

I use it on homemade P.V.C. aquarium filter parts all the time. It is totally safe when cured and I haven't had any peel even being in water 24/7.

The key is good surface prep as mentioned above.

I'm going to give this a shot, I really want to go for a matte white kind of look; I'll try to find a spare 10v shell to work on to see what sandpaper grit and paints to use to achieve the look.
