Default Clear CMOS? - 08-17-2010, 07:04 PM

I just recieved my Dell Mini 10v. It is used but in brand new condition. Unfortunalty there is no password to log into Windows. How do I reset the CMOS or bypass this so I can get into the pc?

got it figured out, I setup a USB to be a bootable drive and I formatted and did a clean install of windows 7 Ultimate. BTW, I figured out the password and got in, but I didn't want Windows 7 starter, lol.

just for future reference the ONLY way to clear the CMOS is to practically disassemble the 10v and remove the internal Li-Ion button battery..not an easy task.....

hey thanks, I wasn't sure if it was easy or not. I bought this secondhand, but it is in brand new condition and part of the price was the fact that the place selling it didn't have the windows password.

Actually, you can do it with software too. (See http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...user-mode.html )

But before anybody starts messing with DOS or disassembling their computer, know that clearing CMOS will *NOT* reset a Windows password.

To do that, you need to reinstall Windows or try your luck with software like Ophcrack.
