Default Mini 10v BIOS suddenly in 'user mode' - 08-10-2010, 08:32 PM

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 10v.

I went to change the boot device order today and got this message:
"All items in this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor"

Also all the other options are greyed out and unchangeable except for speedstep and onboard lan control.

I'd rather not open up my Mini to clear CMOS, but I guess I'll have to.
Any idea how this could have happened?

I'm using A06, which is what my 10v came with. Never flashed it or anything like that.

Fixed!

Didn't even have to take my 10v apart, I just used a Freedos boot disk and KILLCMOS

Any way you could let me know how you set up the freedos boot to run killcmos? I'm having the same problem.

Default same problem need new solution - 01-12-2011, 06:25 PM

I tried the Kill CMOS program above after booting into dos, but I can't get rid of the darn supervisor password in the BIOS, and just like the first poster, most things are greyed out.....I know the supervisor password, but it is offensive and put on by some clown, so I'd rather just get rid of it and boot up normally. Any help is much appreciated. I too have a mini 10v (1011). Thanks!

cant you just enter the supervisor password, get in to the BIOS and then change it or delete it?, also you may try to remove the CMOS coin battery and leave it out for a minute or so then put it back in and see if that will clear it

Default entered supervisor password, no luck - 01-12-2011, 08:39 PM

I've entered the supervisor password, I think, because both the user and hard drive passwords are clear, i.e. not set. As soon as I turn the computer on, to go to either the bios or Windows XP, I am forced to enter the password. It looks like I may have to take this thing apart

I'll take another look at it tonight and see what happens after disconnecting the CMOS battery. Are there jumpers associated with this battery similar to a desktop? Or is just removing the battery for a few minutes sufficient?

removing is usually sufficient......

10v Service Manual

Documentation
CMOS battery Removal/Replacement

NOTE: is a pretty big job to get to the system board, just about the entire system needs to be disassembled and remember there is NO GUARANTEE that this will work

PS.
You might wanna try that above solution again...and double check to make sure that you did EVERYTHING correctly BEFORE you try this....

Default newbie in trouble now - 01-12-2011, 11:08 PM

uggghhhh, sorry for the probably newbie stuff, but there removing the battery for 15 minutes+ didn't seem to get rid of the supervisor password in the bios, and I just tried KillCMOS again, it beeps once really quick and then reboot, forcing me to put in the supervisor password again.

Default something definitely isn't right - 01-13-2011, 03:32 AM

I don't know why it won't let me change it, but I can tell you this....just to verify that the password I was entering was the supervisor password, I set the user password to something different (it was clear/empty before). Once I had set the user password, the supervisor password no longer worked. Then I removed the user password leaving only a supervisor password on it, and the supervisor password worked again.

I also just left the cmos battery out for over 2 hours and still couldn't get rid of the supervisor password problem
