Sounds like you did it right then.

Did you get an error message on the next boot? Something like, "Invalid CMOS, using setup defaults"?

Default I just can't believe this thing - 01-14-2011, 04:06 AM

yes it did the F1 to continue or F2 for setup.....seems like it worked, only to reboot and find out that I'm still in user mode, i.e. none of the bios functions such as supervisor password can be edited. I am also unable to hit f9 to load setup defaults. Something is very fishy here. Thanks everyone for your time and suggestions. They are much appreciated. I hope I don't have to do something like removing a chip and using solder, because I don't have that expertise and I'm sure it would be expensive to pay someone to do it.

Dell wants $59 to do a one time technical support since it's out of warranty, but I really don't want to pay that because I'm not convinced that they can fix the problem.
