Angry Mini 10v: Setting up the display problem. - 08-08-2010, 02:49 PM

I have Mini 10v with Windows XP home edition installed.

The display doesn't seem to accommodate Windows XP under any configuration. If I use the whole screen then I frequently am unable respond to pop ups and system messages because the "OK" button is off the bottom of the screen and unclickable.

If I center the display, then the edges are cut off and the text is small and difficult to read comfortably. This wastes about an eighth of the screen too.

If I use the whole screen without maintaining the aspect ratio, then everything is distorted accordingly, and the experience is downgraded.

I've been using this for almost a year now and still haven't come across the right display setting to make it a pleasant user experience. I've played around with the settings Soooo many times...but still no good.

In short, it seems the options are:

1) Awkward to use system.
2) Wasted screen area with poor readability.
3) Distorted (squashed) everything.

I've tried to find a new driver but my driver is the latest available according to the system message following an update attempt.

I've seen other minis running XP (Like the Asus Eee) without this problem.

Can anyone help me?

Hi,

It's on 1024 x 768 now but I think I've tried all the other settings across the months I've been trying to fix this.

---------- Post added at 04:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:59 PM ----------

Perhaps I should add that 1024 x 768 is also the highest resolution setting available.

So...am I stuck with this problem? It's strange because I haven't found much on the internet about this probelm and I imagine lots of other owners must be fed up with it too.

Poken, I have considered going as far as upgrading to Win 7 if this can't be resolved from the advice available on this forum. It seems a pity to spend the money and I like XP but it is really a drag like this.

Actually, I'm not even sure how I would go about upgrading because the Mini 10v has no CD drive...or can it be done online now?

you would need to load the install on a Flash USB thumbdrive or borrow an external DVD

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to use a hotkey or set up a hotkey to quickly and temporarily change the screen resolution to help with this the original problem in this thread?

There is a setting (1024 600) at which the screen is nicely readable, but at this setting, system messages pop up and I can't respond to them because their buttons extend down below the bottom of the screen. If I could hit a hotkey, respond to the system message and then quickly return to the original resolution...it would n't be perfect of course but it would be better than what I have now.

I've also been waiting and hoping that Google would release their Chrome OS in a form that's managable to less techy people. This might be the best solution but the wait is agony.

I'm surprised you're having this problem at the default resolution (1024x600). I also have a 10v running Windows XP, and I've never had the bottoms of dialog boxes cut off. Are you having the problem only with certain programs, or is it across the board? There are certain programs that require a minimum resolution to run properly, but they usually won't install if they detect that the resolution is below the minimum.

Even though Windows says the driver is up to date, I might try reinstalling it anyway.
