Default mini 10v 6 cell battery issue - 06-29-2010, 04:04 AM

Hi!
I finally got a mini 10v firmware A05 and installed osx without any problem thanks to the info I found on this forum

Now I wanted to get a 6 cell battery so I bought this one on ebay.

I plug the battery, turn on the computer and the light flashed orange. Then I have a message "unrecognized battery type. You won't be able to charge the battery". Does anybody have more infos on this problem?
Thanks!

This is a common issue with non-Dell batteries. Sometimes if you remove and reinsert the battery it will begin charging. The Mini's BIOS looks for identifying information and if it thinks it is not a genuine Dell battery, it won't charge. This is pretty common behavior among vendors, especially with the recent issues of laptop batteries exploding.

People seem to be happy with the Dell battery bought from walmart.com.

oh...the bios checks for the battery... No way to remove that check I suppose?
I was also thinking that maybe I should update the bios as this one may not support 6 cell battery?
I've contacted the seller on ebay, told me it's the first time he hears about that issue and will send a new battery. I'm afraid it will be the same with the new one.
Anyway, thanks as always for the really fast answers! I'll see if the new battery works.

There is no way to remove the check that I know of. With the Mini 9, that check was added in BIOS A02, but the the 10v may always have had it.

If you can't get the third-party battery to work, I suggest getting a refund and buying a Dell battery.

the seller sent me a note saying that it's a mistake on their side, the batteries for mini 10 are not compatible with the mini 10v.
End of the problem and good to know...

But also wrong. Electrically they are compatible.

The battery that Wal-Mart sells on their online store is a Dell battery. Its under 70$ and that includes shipping. The only small problem is it does not exactly fit in the 10V. You can do a little shaving on the battery pad and it will slide in with a snug fit.
You will more than double your battery life. I went from 2 hrs; 15 minutes to six hours with the six cell. And I use the old 3 cell as a backup now. Hard to beat that kind of deal. fdalbor

Hi there Stecar,

I too want to buy a 6 cell battery for my dell 10v and wanted to know if your battery is working well and whether it charges ok.

I am looking at getting it from your seller btl1984.

Thanks for the update.
