there is a setting somewhere...(I forget where)...that allows youmto to set the amount of time the system will wait while shutting down a program, if I remember right it is controlled by a slide type switch dialog box..your system sounds like there is a program that it is waiting for it to shutdown, if you shorten the time the system waits for a program to end before killing it that might speed up your shutdowns..I will look for it and edit this if necessary

oops....I found it, but unless you have WinXP Manager you dont have it..

Thats the screen I was talking about with the slider controls on it.....I just couldnt remember where I had seen it.....but this is it......WinXP Manager allows you to tweak alot of stuff in XP..like getting rid of those annoying shortcut arrows on the desktop and removing the words 'shortcut to' from the descriptions, a lot of neat stuff......by the way there is a Win 7 Manager and a Vista Manager also......
