Ok, so Snowleopard on my 10v has been successfully installed and working for a few months. I then decided to dual boot to xp as well. Bad idea. First problem was having no disc drive, got around that using winxpfromusb program. Also used Nlite to slipstream a sata driver into the install. Both steps seemed to work. Had my partition all ready, chose my empty partition and formatted to NTFS and installed xp. Got through the textmode part no prob. Then the GUI step crashed, first with hal.dll is missing or corrupt, please re-install a copy of this. Looked on my xp usb and could only find that file buried in a sp2 compressed folder. Even though I believe my original disc already had been updated (because files were from 2004) so what gives? I have tried many different ideas, from rebuilding the bootcfg, to altering the boot.ini file to direct the boot to the right partition. All I got out of that was a blue screen with unmountable_boot_image or something like that. Now it wont even let me get to the recovery console, just stops me before I can even get the setup started with hal.dll missing. WTF? How hard can this be seriously? Seems extremely simple but yet impossible. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
