Default USB Jack broke - 05-23-2010, 05:14 PM

I have my Dell mini 10v since fall 2009

I sent it to dell about 4 weeks ago, because the left hinge broke!
They repaired it..
but now one of the 3 USB ports broke ... the Plastic tip above the Pins ist loose.

Because I need the Netbook I want to solder in a new USB Jack my self (I am Informations technican) and I have good soldering Skills.

But I dont want to open my dell Mini 10v now... I want to do it later and I want to do the Ram Upgrade also in one Step...

Can someone say how the USB Ports are soldered on to the MB?
Is it SMD or ist it Print?

You can see Print is that the Pins are going trough the PCB

SMD (Surface Mount Device) is Mounted at top of the PCB

I hope someone can help me!

It looks like the left ports are on a daughterboard, might be simpler just to replace the entire board, if that's where your broken port is. If the one on the MB, then you might try searching the forum and see if someone happened to take a hires pic of the area for an upgrade project. Otherwise, you'll probably have to take it apart and look for yourself.
