Default Wireless Disconnecting - 05-20-2010, 08:32 AM

Hi, I've had my Dell Mini 10v for about a month now, and fell in love with it. I know it's not the BEST laptop/netbook but I like the size. Going to upgrade later on, but onto my issue.

I NEVER had an issue with it, but NOW for some idiotic reason my wireless has been disconnecting after 10+ seconds. The only way I can get it to stay connected is if I has a program continuously using the internet connection. I have up dated the driver to see if that would fix it, no. It didn't. I never upgraded the firmware on the router, and I'm using a Linksys WRT160nV3. I know there's a feature on all network cards for power management. Which turns off when not in use. I turned that off.

PLEASE help, this is soooo annoying. I just want to relax and not have to worry about losing my internet connection on my 10v.

Never had that problem.

Might help to share what OS you are running so the guru's around here can help diagnose your issues.

Also, which wireless card do you have? Is it the original from Dell (1397 b/g or 1510 b/g/n) or have you upgraded to something else?

WinXP Media Center Edition, and it's the standard car, 1397. I don't know what could cause it, the signal is good, because I'm only upstairs and never had a problem, and even when I'm RIGHT next to my router, it STILL cuts out.

Hmmm, based on this it's hard to tell if the problem is with the laptop or with the network. Are there any other computers connecting to the network via wifi? If so, I assume they can connect (and stay connected) without any problems? Also, have you tried connecting your 10v to another network to see if it experiences the same problem? If not, it might be worth trying a friend's network or taking a quick trip to Starbucks to see if you can get onto their network.

Another thought - have you tried changing the channel on the router to see if that makes a difference?

Yes, I have more laptops, PSP's, Xbox 360, and what not, but I know it can't be there internet. And no, I haven't tried connecting to another network, but it seems fine for now, but that's cause I'm right next to it. I've been connected for an hour... hmmm
And Yes, I have changed the channel before and it still didn't help cause the card is only on 10.
