Have a look at this post (and thread) for details:

Thanks for that - I've gone ahead and bought the H769N battery as I'm perfectly happy to have at it with a knife to save a few quid

Will report back once it arrives!

BATTERY FOR DELL MINI 10 10v 1010 1011 J590M M457P on eBay (end time 22-May-10 12:36:00 BST)

- Simon.
Just a quick comment on this:
I ordered this battery - delivered to the UK - cost me around £38 all in I think (which is good).
However - it doesn't work! The battery looks like a proper battery but it doesn't say dell on it (all the other markings look correct though).
Also it's not a perfect fit which made me think it might be the Mini 10 one - so was thinking about shaving some off to make it fit properly.
The main issue though is that once I squeezed it in and turned on the 10v it went to boot up and then the power light flashed red and white. Then on screen a message appeared which said "this battery could not be recognised. the battery is unable to be charged. please press f1 to continue."

All in all not good. Have contacted the seller for an RMA in the hope I can return it!

Erk!

Well, in contrast - mine turned up within a day or so, quick shave with a knife and it's working like a charm. I've had about 8 hours+ of battery life (have seen it report nearly 9 hours with the brightness turned lower).

Couldn't be happier - thanks to all who post useful links and tips to this forum, saved me money already

Thumbs up 6 Cell Batteries - Install and Lock - 05-14-2010, 06:32 PM

I saw this post so I will ask..did you have problem with the 6 cell battery locking into the computer. I purchased on Ebay and it will not lock in...turn it over and the battery falls out. Do you or anyone else know how to modifiy the battery so it will fit and lock into a 10v ??? Picture or photos would be great.

Cheers Mates.... Capt. John J.

Yeah, if you read this thread there is a link to another thread that explains how to alter the battery to fit.

The link you are looking for is titled 'Walmart mini 10 6cell battery' and is actually in the post at the top of this page

Don't worry about it too much, it's obvious once you have the battery in front of you. Basically there are two square holes on the battery, you need to shave a little extra off the bottom of those two squares.

You'll need a sharp knife and a little patience, just gently scrape to shave off a little, then try the battery. Repeat until it fits, incredibly simple - can't understand why they even bothered to change the design.

Same here. Battery does not quite fit correctly and is not recognised by laptop. Closer inspection reveals that this is not labelled the same as a genuine Dell battery (actually it is labelled RECHARGEABLE BAEERY PACK !) and the Manufacturer is reported as Compal in System Profiler (as opposed to Dynapack for 2200 mAh 3-cell that came with machine).

Hmmm......

Same here, although battery seemed to fit ok. I'm getting the same Battery Can Not Be Identified message, and am unable to charge it. Mine also says Rechargeable Baeery Pack. For 36 quid I wasn't expecting it to be a genuine Dell battery, but I was expecting it to work at least!

I've googled this problem and a few people have suggested flashing the BIOS, which I'm a bit nervous about doing considering I've hackintoshed my Mini 10V. Any other suggestions? Or do I just return it to the seller?

For another 20quid you can get a genuine battery from the place linked in this thread - why bother with this one?
