Default Upgrading to new HDD - 03-28-2010, 04:26 PM

Yes, I do know this is a nub question, but how would I get my software from the HDD now to new HDD? Might get a 320GB one soon.

Dell Mini 10V- 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Intel Atom Processor 1.60 GHZ, Windows 7 Professional
Wanted- 2GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, maybe Mac OSX 10.5.8?

I have Windows 7 Pro full version, could I use the product key for the genuine version again?

Yes, Windows keys can be used multiple times but may require calling Microsoft for an activation code. When activating windows it will either accept the key or walk you through the steps of contacting Microsoft and activation over the phone.

If you are asked to call its very easy and take only 5 minutes. I do suggest that instead of saying each number use your phones keypad instead. This helps with the system not mistaking what you say.

Thanks, I have used the key twice, that's all, and I got a lot of money, so I am most likely getting that and 2GB RAM soon, but I'm debating if I should pay $25 more for a 500GB- won't be of any use more, but might run faster, and makes it more impressive, what do you think?

I might just go with 500GB, and if I did that, along with 2GB Ram, I could put in 64-Bit Windows 7- right?

wrong, the 10v will not run 64bit anything.....it must be 32bit...the new 1012 from what I hear will run 64bit..but with only 1 or 2gb of RAM its basically a waste of time being where the machine wont really use the 64bit technology you really need at least 4gb to run 64bit, but in your case the processor wont allow for 64bit anyway

If you are looking for a good program to clone over your drive with, check out Partition Wizard. It's a free program that's similar to Partition Magic. I've been using it a lot lately to clone installs to and from various hard drives (in my desktop and GF's Mini 10v). It works really well, with both HDDs and SSDs. It also even does secure drive wiping.

/Not associated with them, just a big fan.

Sold my Mini 9 for a larger netbook, one that's easier on my wrists and hands.
Current Machine: 2010 MacBook Pro 13", 2.4 GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, Win7 Pro x64/OS X 10.6.3

And I play with my girlfriend's Mini 10v ^_^.

Interested in using MATLAB on the Mini 10v? Check out my benchmarks!
