Complete hard disk recovery solution, backup, drive copy, clone and image computer software
If you try Acronis and like it, Amazon has it on sale for $19.99 if you're in the U.S. (vs. $49.99 most other places I checked):
Amazon.com: Acronis True Image Home 2010: Software
What I usually do is leave the old drive in the laptop, plug the new drive into an external enclosure, run the cloning software and copy the old HDD's data via USB, then swap the new HDD with the old one. After I'm sure everything is working properly, I either keep the old drive as a backup or reformat it and use it as an external HDD for extra storage.
This is the SATA-to-USB enclosure I have:
Newegg.com - COOLMAX HD-250BL-U2 Aluminum 2.5" Blue USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures
There are lots of other (probably cheaper) options, though. I didn't want to have to wait for shipping, so I just went with what I could find at Microcenter.
