Default Wireless connection problem...help? - 03-06-2010, 05:45 PM

Okay, so I installed Windows 7 on another one of my mini 10's the same way I did on the other 2 without incident and this one will not connect via the wireless adapter. When I diagnose it I get; "wireless capability is turned off" however the adapter is enabled, it just won't search for a wireless connection; it acts as if it is disabled. The F2 key doesn't seem to be working or enabling / disabling the adapter either. Internet access works fine by ethernet cable so I already downloaded the most current driver for the wireless adapter but it made no difference to my problem.

Please help.....THANKS!

Which wireless adapter? Did you install the Wireless Select Switch app?

Hmm...I thought mine had only one wireless adapter 1397WLAN mini card.....the other is a wifi card..(which i guess is wireless as well)
Didn't know i had to install anything after a clean Window 7 installation. I've done the same exact 7 install to two other identical units and I didn't need to install anything afterwards.

thanks!

What I meant was which brand and model WLAN/WiFi card do you have?

You need the Wireless Select Switch application to enable the F2 functionality.

Oh, no problem. Not sure of the brand or model.....sorry but, how could I retrieve that info?

Also, how do I enable the Wireless Select Switch and why didn't I have to do anything 'extra' in the prior installs on the same units?

Thanks again for the help....much appreciated!

I don't know why you didn't have to do anything different before. If you're using the stock Dell adapter, then don't worry about the brand and model.

Any ideas on how to fix the issue? F2 key / switch etc.

Thanks!

Does F2 now work? Did you reboot after installing?
