Default Possibility of adding a mini PCIe Slot - 03-06-2010, 10:26 AM

Just found this on ebay:

MINI PCI-E WWAN TO USB ADAPTER WITH SIM CARD SLOT bei eBay.de: Network Interface Cards (endet 12.03.10 13:41:51 MEZ)

May be interesting for those (like me) who want to add a Broadcom HD Decoder to their Mini 10v. Although it would probably be easier/cheaper to buy a WIFI dongle and put the Decoder in the internal Slot.

Another possibility were a USB-ExpressCard34 Adaptor, to put the ExpressCard34 Broadcom Decoder in. Strange though that you can just read of it, i´ve never found one to buy.

You misunderstand what this is. It allows the use of a MiniPCIe form factor USB card with a regular USB jack. It is not a full MiniPCIe slot and won't work with the Broadcom card. MiniPCIe has some USB pins and that's all that's wired up here. An ExpresdCard adapter would be the same.

You can install a MiniPCI connector, and if you wire it up properly, you could install a Broadcom HD card. Check out these links for inspiration/how-to:

EeeUser Forum / eee 901 3G miniPCI-e slot (partially) activated!!! PCI-e WiFi working!

Sold my Mini 9 for a larger netbook, one that's easier on my wrists and hands.

And I play with my girlfriend's Mini 10v ^_^.

Interested in using MATLAB on the Mini 10v? Check out my benchmarks!

Formerglory, an excellent link. I guess the question remains open until someone actually tries it and reports success on a 10v.

With too many projects already on my hands I would just be happy to plug the HD card in to the existing slot and use an external usb wi-fi.

If I get my hands on a Mini 10v or a 9 anytime soon, I'm going to try my hand at this. I've got the technical ability and resources (engineering grad student), just need the time and money.
