When I upgraded my RAM I also took the opportunity to install a OCZ Vertex 64 GB SSD (although they actually describe it as a 60GB so as to give a more realistic idea of the actual formatted capacity!) at the same time.

I would have liked a larger one, but the price was rather a limiting factor! The actual installation process is easy, it just virtually plugs in, and it is great to have a completely silent Mini!

I went for the OCZ, partly after reading a very interesting review by Anantech, and also the excellent and very active manufacturers forum, in which staff members play a very active roll, and issue regular firmware updates, with loads of hints and performance tips.

I am not really into serious 'benchmarking' and stuff, but the general reviews and other user experiences of this particular model were enough to persuade me that it was the right one to go for at the time.

Mind you, things move on so quickly these days, and you will probably have noticed a recent model from RunCore, who advertise on MDM, which sounds very fast, although I have to say that I hadn't actually heard of them before!

I can see we are in danger of 'hijacking' this thread here, but you will find that these have been discussed in other sections also.

Edit: I am very taken with 'Lovely Legs'!

Thanks!
I agree technology (and prices) move really quickly. Maybe I will slap
a 7200 drive in there and call it good with some ram too. I've been
keeping an eye on the ram on ebay, amazon and newegg and I may try
to take your guys' advice and buy some locally to save money.

Overall I am really satisfied with this little soldier.
I actually loaded Photoshop on it when I first got it (school gave me
Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS4), and wow it didn't run too
bad. For what it is it only had a little lag when I started really absuing
some filters and brushes. But for quick photo editing (levels, curves
maybe some clone stamping), it rocks.

Back to topic.. yah The first upgrade will be ram. =)

Make sure the RAM you buy is the right kind. What's the Amazon link to the one you have your eye on?

Thanks Holmes. Hey here is the link to one I was eyeballing today.
It isn't advertised for the Mini specifically, but it seems like it would work?
Amazon.com: 2GB Memory Upgrade 2 GB for Dell Inspiron 1420 1420n 1520 1521 1525 Laptop RAM: Everything Else

Plus it's pretty cheap ^_^.

Why not go for the Crucial Technology CT25664AC800 which is a wee bit cheaper, and with free delivery as well... and it is a 'branded' product.

Or you could go for the Crucial 2GB 256Mx64PC2-5300 CT25664AC667, also from Amazon, and get a free 4 GB SD memory card, which is always handy!

Default new to board and to Hackintosh - 08-22-2010, 08:17 PM

My first post! I just joined the board. I just purchased one of the Dell Mini 10v Nicelodeon netbooks from Sam's and plan on doing the memory upgrade. I also plan on adding the Bluetooth module while I have it torn apart and upgrading the HDD to a WD green 500 gig. Then I plan on following the guides and have either a dual or triple boot machine.

I can't wait. Glad to be a new member.

Any tips appreciated.

they are only good if you have a camera or a camera phone, the newer SDHC cards will not work with older machines thats why I prefer a USB thumb drive, they will work in older and newer systems, my older laptop and desktops will not take an 4gb SDHC card only my 1010 does, my 16gb thumb drive works in ALL of my systems.....to take pictures off my camera phone.. I have to either send them bluetooth to the 1010 and then send them across my network to whatever system I want or I have to take the mini SD card out of the phone, put it in the adapter then into the 1010, dump them on a thumb drive and load them on whatever system I want..its a pain now matter how you look at it
