Default New owner of 10v :) - 02-07-2010, 06:13 AM

Hey guys!

I'm finally a 10V member after missing out on many deals and regretting the purchase I stopped around Black Friday. It was going to cost me $205 shipped to CA for a brand new 10v. Now i have a refurbed one for the same price lol

Anyways, I have purchased a lot of accessories for the 10V, but now I want to upgrade the internals of it.

I have the BT and the 2GB ram down, but what else is really needed? I'm willing to spend more money to make this 10v VERY good

1. I know the TRACKPAD sucks very badly, but what are the options besides changing it to the 10 model? Are there any on eBay?

2. Would changing the WIFI card to the Atheros /b/g/n one on eBay make any difference?

3. How could the "WWAN" be used? I just read a quick summary that it's for 3G or something, but quite unsure of the exact usage.

4. Could GPS be implemented?

5. Where is the thread for "tri-boot" instructions?

I know these have been answered a lot before and I actually HAVE read a lot of threads, but it's really too much to read and I couldn't find some of the answers.

Thanks guys!

Using the trackpad with SL and Windows 7, loving it. I suggest trying it for a bit before doing anything drastic. I actually prefer it over the trackpads on MacBooks.

Hmm, I have actually NEVER tried Win7...how is it compared to XP?

The only reason I don't like the trackpad is because when I want to push the left/right key, it tends to scroll off. I also heard that the original Dell 10 does multi-gestures or something.

Thanks for your input!

p.s. Luckily this netbook is basically the same speed as the laptop I've been using for the past 6-7 years, lol. Have not used dual cores yet!

I'll put it this way. Windows 7 is giving OS X a run for its money. I'm a Mac guy and I'm really quite impressed by 7. I think 7 blows XP out of the water.

The 10v also supports multi-touch. It's just not really "advertised". I use multi-touch in OS X and Windows 7 (although, in order to use multi-touch in Windows, you have to download the driver from the Synaptics site as opposed to the Dell site.)

Also, tap to click feature is a god send. No need to actually push, just tap, works great.

I guess i will be trying 7 ...which version do you use?

As for the synaptics driver...is it the one right there at the main site? I did download it, but do not notice much difference

well one upgrade you might think about is a larger HD, I spent $89 from Dell for a 500gb drive....just my 0.02..

PS. any 2.5inch SATA drive will work even SSD's

Dell Mini 10 (Obsidian Black 1010), 2gb RAM, 1.6ghz 533mhz FSB (Z530) processor,A10 BIOS, 750gb WD Scorpio Blue Hard Drive (5400rpm), Intel GMA 500 Integrated Graphics, TV Tuner, Bluetooth 2.1 module with EDR, 1.3mp Camera, 1366x768 HD Screen, Wireless 1510 b/g/n mini card, 6 cell (56WHr) Battery..every option except GPS (wasnt out yet), 4gb SDHC, 8gb Flashdrive, Targus Netbook Chillpad, Targus Sport Case, Windows XP Pro SP3 (98gb)/Windows 7 Ultimate (600gb) (Dual Boot)

Wild, I would suggest trying SL on ur 10v before you purchase additional upgrades. I personally think its great with 1gb, but i went ahead and got a 2gb stick (on the way). I would try it before you spend more money on other upgrades, cuz after all, it is just a netbook :P

I use Ultimate. Starter is trash. Go into the Synaptics Control Panel and play with your settings. I added things like two finger scrolling and tap to click, makes a huge difference.

Thanks you guys for the continuous help! Very helpful forum!

1. I thought about upgrading the HDD, but would HEAT be an issue? My 10V gets pretty hot at around 50-60*C, but it may probably go higher. I know SSDs are extremely expensive, so that is out of the question Would it make a difference if I use a 7200RPM hd? I believe the current one is 5400

2. I do realize this is just a netbook, but since the laptop I've been using seems to run at the same speed, I really don't mind I got the netbook to work on the go for my websites.

3. I will definitely mess around with the Synaptics settings. Hopefully it really is what you say and my trackpad will be better!

4. Here I come...Win 7 Ultimate
