This saved my bacon. Make sure you use a 32 bit version of Windows to create the diskette though. 64 bit Windows will extract the files to the floppy but it can't create a boot sector.

I followed your instructions and got my mini 10v back, but now bios asks for password. How can I get it? I can't call Dell support because I bought this one from local dealer in Kazakhstan, and he will not give me order numbers and etc.

you can try to reset the BIOS by dis-connecting the CMOS battery, its tough to get to but most people say it works:

I followed the guide, plugged in the floppy drive, held FN+End, pressed power, and the netbook beeps once, and the floppy spins for a bit, and then it just stops. Any suggestions?

I bricked one of my dell minis after trying to update the bios with a non-dell 9cell battery installed.

I want to buy an external floppy to attempt this fix, does anyone have a good source for external floppy drives (that will work with this method) in the UK?

I tried this recovery method and it worked great! only thing is now it wants a BIOS password and one was never on the system.

People would not have ANY of these issues if they would just leave the BIOS alone..do a search on 'brick' it is crazy how many threads there are.....why cant people just leave it alone....people also try to buy these cut rate piece of junk 3rd party batteries then wind up with them 'not being identified' , then have to mess with the BIOS and wind up with a brick.....if they would have just bought a Dell battery in the 1st place they would have no battery issues and no reason to mess with having to upgrade/downgrade the BIOS to begin with.....that is the true meaning of insanity:

"doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"....

I just dont get it...

PS. NO......... I dont work for Dell..I am just one of those people who buy from the manufacturer...same as when I need a part for a Chevy I dont go to Ford to buy it
