Default Getting rid of DUAL BOOT OSX/WIN7 and installing ONLY WIN7 - 01-30-2010, 11:06 PM

Hi,

A few months ago I followed mechdrew's guide for dual booting a Dell Mini 10v with OS X and Windows 7. I used EasyBCD 1.7.2 as my bootloader to prompt the user to choose between OS's upon bootup.

Now, the novelty of an OS X netbook has worn out and I would like to reformat and install ONLY Windows 7. I only want one partition.

My question: Can I just do this the normal way by booting from a Windows 7 flash drive, formatting my drive, deleting the OS X partition, etc, or do I have to do something with the BOOTLOADER before or after I reformat and reinstall Windows 7? Do I have to do anything with DellEFI or anything like that?

Thanks.

The way I do it is to boot to the Win7 install drive, hit Shift F10, launch diskpart, and clean the drive. Then go through the normal process.

You can simply choose a Custom install, then Advanced. Delete all the existing partitions and tell it to install to the unpartitioned space. No need to run diskpart separately.

I could swear I did after one of my installs, but I'm old and going senile, so maybe not. I know when I rebuilt my 10v last night I went that route though. Doesn't hurt anything, just a couple of extra steps.

So I don't need to anything with DellEFI right?
From my understanding: it's basically a matter of deleting partitions, formatting as NTFS, and installing Windows 7 procedure?

If you are re-installing Windows 7 from a Microsoft DVD, as Holmes4 said above, if you select the Advanced options, it will even take care of the formating for you!

Right - don't format it yourself - let the Windows install do it. It will create a 200MB hidden partition that aids recovery and aligns the C partition.
