Default Walmart mini 10 6cell battery - 01-30-2010, 01:45 PM

Hey, I'm a new mini 10v owner. I didn't spring for the 6 cell battery when I ordered it and I am looking around to see if I can pick one up at a decent price. In looking through the threads here, I see lots are buying mini 10 batteries and shaving the holes for the clips back so they fit in the 10v.

Is this the same battery as the ones they are selling on Ebay? Walmart 6cell mini 10 battery

If so, it rings up in my cart as $69.99 which is one heck of a deal if I can do the shave trick to get it in my 10v.

Thanks for the help,
Sean

It appears to be the same but I'm not sure, If it is, thats a great deal. If not, just return it back to Walmart. I might consider getting that same one...

just be advised, after you shave it, you might not be able to return it either..

Received the battery. Looks to be original Dell. It goes in, but can't be locked into place. Shaved off the tabs, now it's working perfectly. I can make some photos and show what needs to be shaved off, if that hasn't been posted before.

Default 6 cell battery for 11Z - 03-18-2010, 02:40 AM

Any reason this won't work in the 11z, pretty sure I read on this site that the battery in the 11z and the 10v are the same. Standard battery life in the 11Z is a little short for me.

I was afraid of that. Sync'ed my iPhone with the wrong computer and the photos are gone. I'll take a couple again, but won't have any "before" pictures.

BTW, I wonder whether that's a pricing error by Walmart. Just doesn't correlate with the other vendor's prices. In any case, I'm getting >5hrs now, can't complain.

not sure if this applies at Walmart, but I worked @ Circuit City for like 2 1/2 yrs and our pricing schemes where anything with a .99 or .00 were general stock, a .98 meant that the item was being closed out and they were trying to eliminate stock and a .97 was a discontinued item..the price on this is a .98....just my 0.02..

PS. Not sure how many people know this but a company bought out Circuit City stock and the site is available online @ http://www.circuitcity.com/
they are under new management now..they have refurb Mini 10v's for $239..but they are green

How to modify a 10 battery for the 10v:

On the original 10v batter the part that is pushed into the chassis is deeper then on the 10 battery. The attached photos show both batteries. Therefore the locking mechanism doesn't work until you take off half of the ridge, as indicated on the photos. I used an X-acto knife.

EDIT: revgreg noted he shaved off less then half of this ridge and that created a snug fit.
