Default Can't install Win 7 on SSD - 01-29-2010, 04:27 PM

Hi guys, Ive just bought a Intel 40 gb SSD and installed into my Dell Mini, but I can't get through the win 7 installation. The problem occurs when I try to make a partition and then click install. Suddenly I get an error message or the SSD disappears.. Anyone knows a solution to this? Ive also tried to clone my harddrive without any luck..

Perhaps the SSD is defective or is not installed properly.

Hi,

one way, you have to delete the partition, and then run the win7 installguide.
And win7 will make two partitions.

good luck

I just managed to install Windows Vista without any problems. Now I'm trying to see if I can do an upgrade from vista to win 7.

yes you should.
and after that you can make a clean install of windows 7 again, if you dont want to work with an upgraded version, the partitions should be good then.

Im not sure but i think to remember, that an ssd if you erase it, not really is erased.

perhaps theres not enough real space on your ssd.

read this post to clean your ssd and reformat

good luck

Ok. Ill have a look. That's a bit weird because I've tried to install win 7 when the entire disk is marked as unallocated space.

sorry i meant start the win disc with unallocated space and then use the options to format the drive, because then win7 format your disc in two partitions one system partition about 200MB and the rest for C:

if you format it yourself before installing, often win 7 doesnt install correct.

Good luck

An update.

Ive tried to do an upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7, but that caused a blue-screen during upgrade. I tried to connect the drive to my desktop computer and format it and then put it back into the Dell and install win 7. That didn't work.

Then I tried to install win 7 on the SSD in my desktop computer and that worked, but not on my Dell. This is very strange because ive used win 7 on the 160gb 5400rpm stock hard drive since ive got it.

Any tips. Ive also tried to clone my 160gb disk to my Intel SSD with Norton Ghost and Acronis Image home, but I didn't through the win logon screen.

Any tips?
