Just to clarify the position here, for anyone coming across this thread for the first time... the problems all appear to associated with the Mini 10 and NOT the 10v which seems to be quite happy with SSD's and Windows 7.

Mini 10v - Product (RED) - BIOS A06 - Ubuntu 11.04 - 2GB RAM - 60 GB OCZ Vertex SSD - Bluetooth - Intel 6205 Wi-Fi - WWAN

Yep. That's right.

SSD + mini 10 V = safe
SSD + mini 10 = not working properly

I just built a new computer for a friend of mine with the Intel SSD. That worked great. It's a a shame I didn't get to know the Intel that well

Edit. 82 posts already. Dell should really see this thread.

Someone posted a fix on the Intel site for it linked from the post I put up, but it involves disabling trim in the registry during install.

Also means you won't have it after install either.

Workaround for installing Windows 7 on...

I called Dell about this and here is the answer:

Question: I have a Mini 1010 that was originally ordered with a spindle hard drive. The BIOS has no option for AHCI or SATA for the hard drive. It sees my spindle hard drive and also can see the SSD hard drive. Why can't Windows 7 be installed on SSD hard drive.

Answer: If the Mini1010 was ordered with a spindle hard drive then only spindle hard drives will work and not SSD.
If the Mini1010 was ordered with an SSD hard drive then only SSD hard drives can be used and not spindle hard drive.

Basically it's one or the other and not both. This is supposed to be internal through Dell and not for the general public they're telling me. I confirmed it with two people from Dell. Even more, if you type in the Service Tag for your netbook and go to the upgrade center and pick the option to upgrade your hard drive. It will tell you by only listing spindle hard drives or both. In my case, only spindle hard drives were listed, no SSD hard drives were shown.
I have two SSD hard drives here. One intel and one Sandisk. The Sandisk is supposed to work which is confirmed by their live chat session yet it still won't install.
Error: Windows cannot install required files. The file does not exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error Code: 0x80070002.

As people here found out it's a problem with trim support of the ssd.
If you use a ssd with trim, the ssd will disappeare at least by installing the files.

Workaround: Install drive at different pc, deactivate trim support and it should work.

This solution was posted somewhere here in the forum.
