I'm starting to think that the issue is in the PATA to SATA chip and that the Windows 7 driver is trying to change its operating mode and causing issue.

Intel recommends a default setting of RAID for its SATA controllers and it sounds like that's what we have here according to SSD Optimizer results in XP/Vista so maybe the W7 driver is trying to change modes to one that the converter doesn't support and locking it up? Would explain the dissapearance of the drive unless you power off the Mini and why the SSD works just fine in other machines.

Unfortunately, that also means that if we use the Vista driver and it works the converter will stay in RAID mode and we likely won't get TRIM. Additionally, if it is that chip there probably isn't a way to update it so we're stuck.

The chipset hasn't changed either, though perhaps a running change in the drive adapter circuitry was made - no way to really tell.

More and more toying. The boot process hangs at classpnp.sys with a cloned install.

Won't boot in safe mode or from an external usb but there is a bluescreen that flashes right before reboot... any log for that to see what it was?

KillBox,DkJones, have you tried to install 7 and then replace, after the first reboot, using a desktop pc, all the hard disk/ controller/ etc driver files?

Hey! I have looked at the screenshot... I think the problem can arise not (or not only) from the disk driver but from the ATA controller driver... Maybe...

I tried with the XP drivers but it didn't like them, just locked up. I don't have the Vista drivers.

I was reading that classpnp.sys normally hangs when write caching fails to load correctly but I didn't get a chance last night to try and disable it.

I just saw that I have bios version A11, while the newest one is A04. Weird. Tried to upgrade/downgrade to A04, but it didn't work.

The newer is a11... However it doesn't change anything. The problem is caused by this fact: anyone at Intel or at Microsoft have never thought to link together an advanced ssd (that use all new features) to windows 7 (that support them) through a pata5 interface created in the early 2000...

So I think, if replacing files doesn't work, (it remains to try with vista one...) the only remaining think to do is make noise about this, on forum, on their support... Or use a different ssd.

Ok. I will give it a try. I will partition my SSD up in two equal partitions. One with Vista and then try to install Windows 7 using Vista drivers om the other one.

I returned the SSD for a credit. I REALLY wanted it to work. I really did, but my 30 days was running out and I needed to make a decision. If you get it with the Vista drivers and SSD Optimizer works I'll use my credit to get the drive again.
