Default 2 GB RAM upgrade? - 01-28-2010, 04:24 PM

Dear all
The mini 10v has an FSB at 550 MHz.
Is a 2 GB module 550 MHz, CL = 4 OK or is it better to have
a module @ 667 or 800 MHz CL = 5 which runs at 550 MHz anyway.
I'm currently having problems with the OS X install and some people
implicate the RAM to be the problem. Is a 550 MHz Module too slow?

The 10v runs RAM at 533MHz. Buying RAM that is capable of running at faster speeds won't make any difference in performance. I very much doubt that RAM is the weak link in your performance issue.

umm correct me if im wrong but your ram is not running at 533.

if you buy ddr2-800, it will run at 400mhz because its running in single channel. the 800mhz is if its running in dual channel mode...

so to answer your question, buy up to and including ddr2-800, because theoretically it will run at 400mhz in your 10v.

likewise, if you buy ddr2-667, it will run at ~333mhz (single channel mode)

Nope. 533. This is determined by the chipset. DDR2-800 will run at 533 on the 10v. The speed rating is the maximum supported speed, but the chipset may run it slower. Single or dual channel doesn't change this.
