Default Anyone bought dell's refurbished 10v? - 01-12-2010, 04:38 PM

Anyone here using a refub 10v from outlet.dell.com? Wondering about the quality. My mini 9 purchased new was issue free. Been reading I, Cringely though and its making me a bit hesitant....

Cringley is an idiot. I've read his columns since the late 80s/early 90s, and he hasn't scared me out of IT yet

I've bought two 9s and a 10v from the Outlet, and will not hesitate to do so again.

I'd say the majority of people here have bought from the outlet. I have three Minis, a 9, a 10, and a 10v all from the outlet.

Got my 10v from outlet, shipped right away, had 2 small nicks on the cover, but other than that has been problem free, runs 10.6.2 great!!

I bought a "Scratch and Dent" Mini 9 from the Outlet, and it's been perfect.

I bought my mini 10v from the Outlet. It was the only place to get red and I ended up getting the color and the 1510 at no extra cost when compared to the new prices.

The only issue was when I was having trouble getting the wireless to work. I called the support people and it seems the mini was still registered to the previous owner so they would not help me. That took several very frustrating calls and a few emails to get it corrected. Unbelievable. At one point the service manager found the purchase history in the database including the purchase number, customer number with my info, but since the service tag had a name and address he couldn't help and the people who could change it were gone!!

It does have a minor scratch on the bottom of the case, but that's no big deal. I would buy from there again, the price was right.

I too got my 10v from the outlet, it's been flawless.

As someone who once worked in the consumer electronics business, I can assure you that the VAST majority of refurb material that is sold was returned as "buyers remorse" but that the federal laws state that if the item has been opened it cannot be resold as new. We had digital cameras come back that the batteries were still wrapped in celophane and our diagnostic tools verfiied that the camera never took a picture, but it went into the refurb channel.

Not only that, refurbs are tested more than the original units to ensure that there is nothing wrong.

I've bought 2 Mini 9's, a Studio XPS 13 and my current Mini 10v all from the Outlet. Minor issues with the Studio, no issues with the Mini's...well, none that I didn't cause by myself. :

Going with the outlet I even saw a 2GB ram one.... wondering if that's a typo.

Depends on the OS. If it's Ubuntu, probably not.
