Apple went from 3 month guarantee on reburbs to the full year the retail stuff is warranteed for many years ago!
BTW, I was told by someone at Apple some years ago that most of the refurbs had never made it to a customer - mostly, they were ones removed from the assembly line by quality control. Of the dozen or so Apple refurbs I have bought over the years, and to Dell products (a monitor and the Mini) none have ever shown the slightest scratch, or even smudge, that would suggest they were not brand new.
I suppose some day I may get one with coffee stains, scratches and dead pixels, but if I do, I will still be, statistically, way ahead.
