Question Can I use 10v to create 'BIOS Down-grader'? - 12-14-2009, 11:56 AM

This may seem like a dumb question but I just wanted to clarify in case I'm missing something and end-up bricking my soon-to-arrive 10v:

> I don't have a Windows PC - that is until my 10v arrives; it will have a stock XP installation. I guess that in order to downgrade the BIOS to A04/5 (it's very likely my 10v will be A06 or higher), I can use the 10v to get A04/05 onto a USB Flash Drive right?

I plan to then boot, downgrade the BIOS via this USB Flash Drive, and then go through the normal Netbook Installer method (i.e. installing OS X via a USB Flash Drive - this Drive has already been prepped). I have already found all the info I need re: downgrading BIOS.

Is there any reason why I can't do this using the 10v? I really can't think of a reason but wanted to make double-sure. Worst case, I can do this at work on a Windows PC or something but it would save me a little hassle if I could prep the 'BIOS Downgrading USB Flash Drive' on the 10v itself since it will have XP on it when it arrives anyway...albeit for a very short time indeed...mwah haha haha :-)

exactly why I did with my mini... worked fine, but I did have the sleep issue... if for some reason you run into that as well... here's the fix.

- How I fixed the awaking from sleep problem on my 10v Hackintosh!!!!

Found this cool thread - I can do it on my 10v and won't even need a USB Flash Drive for the purpose:

Downgrade your Mini 10v to BIOS A05 without a USB Drive (Using Windows)

My only access to a PC was my 10v when it arrived and I created my bootable A04 Bios stick from it. No issues here.

I used this process as well on two 10v's that arrived with A06. I didn't have a flash drive handy and it worked like a champ running right from the 10v in XP. I also double checked to ensure I could enter the bios and change the settings after it was done and it worked perfectly.

I am sure you are... you should have it in time for Christmas too, which is good!

Don't forget to keep checking on the tracking progress a bit nearer the time though, will you!

Montala,

It's actually been delivered...to my in-laws in the Midlands!

I'll get my hands on it on Tue or Wed when my bruv-in-law visits us.
