Default SSD Drives - 12-08-2009, 09:58 PM

Has anyone tried to install a SSD drive in the Mini 10v? I bought a Kingston SSD Now V Series, 64 GB drive and the BIOS sees the drive but when installing Windows 7 no go. I have upgraded the unit to (2) GB of RAM - yes you take it totally apart to do that. I also initially put in a 160 GB 7200 SATA drive replacing the 5400 model for better performance. I am dual booting Win 7 and Ubuntu 9.1 Netbook Remix. Both run great.

I think that quite a few people have installed an SSD into their 10v's.

I put an OCZ Vertex into mine, and installed Windows 7 (from an external optical drive) with no problems at all. It was recognised by the system straight away.

Like you, I carried out the 2 GB RAM upgrade at the same time.

Mini 10v - Product (RED) - BIOS A06 - Ubuntu 11.04 - 2GB RAM - 60 GB OCZ Vertex SSD - Bluetooth - Intel 6205 Wi-Fi - WWAN

Well I ended up installing Ubuntu 9.10 on the drive and then put the drive back in the mini and it saw the drive. Removed the Linux partitions and Windows 7 lives again on the mini. A definite increase in performance. The CPU is really the bottleneck now, but the performance is very acceptable. This is now a great mobile machine. Next step is to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.1 in dual boot mode.
