Default question about dell mini 10v - 12-08-2009, 08:04 PM

im new here guys so excuse the noobness if this the wrong place to post this lol... i will be coming here more often since im getting a dell mini soon...

ok so i plan on buying a dell mini today actually... i just bought a gateway from bestbuy the model is LT3117U... i liked all the specs and the screensize but i rather get the dell mini because i want to run snow leopard on it so i can sacrifice the screensize...

but ya i just had a couple questions

which dell mini 10v is better for the price?
this is from dell for 336 shipped with taxes included and with battery upgrade Dell Mini 10 & Mini 10v Netbook Product Details | Dell~~

this is from amazon for 326 shipped
Amazon.com: Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 10.1-Inch Obsidian Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours 8 Minutes of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter): Electronics

and i wanted to upgrade the ram and harddrive before installing the osx on there... so i was thinking of going with this ram for 43 shipped
Amazon.com: Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory: Electronics

and this harddrive for 50 shipped
Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVT 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

so ya give yall feedback with what you think is the better deal or if you know something better and cheaper... im actually going to return my gateway to bestbuy right now but wanted feedback before buying anything.... im going to have my friend help me install everything because i dont have a 8gig flash drive or a mac like the guide says... i do have an external harddrive thats 160gig... well im a get going... thanks for the read...

look around on slickdeals.net for Dell coupons.
Also purchase through bing.com and get cash back on various purchases. I believe Dell and Buy.com have agreements. Others might also.

You can save a bit with Bing at the Dell site.

if your're gonna swap HD's why not just go for the 500gb or the 640gb and save yourself trouble in the future...

I put in my 500gb as soon as I got mine, now I am kinda sorry I didnt get the 640gb..you can never have too much disk space, I only paid $89 (USD) for the 500gb and that was thru Dell

i would sacrafice a little battery life for a 7200rpm hard drive..

It will be a noticable improvment.

Just make sure you find one that reviews say is quiet.

Ive seen some huge 7200rpm drives in the $100 range.

its not so much the noise or battery life but you have to be concerned about the additional heat that will be given off,the faster the drive spins the more heat it gives off there aint much, room in there for heat distribution, remember there are no fans either.if you think that thing gets hot now...WAIT it'll get worse...
