Default Touchpad jumping cursor - 12-08-2009, 06:07 PM

I just got a new Dell Mini 10v yesterday with Windows XP. When I'm moving the mouse cursor on the touchpad, roughly 10% of the time the cursor will randomly jump up and to the right several inches. With about the same frequency, clicking the left touchpad button will cause the mouse cursor to randomly jump down and to the left several inches. I went to the dell web site and downloaded and installed the latest mini 10v touchpad driver but it made no difference. I've got all the scrolling, tapping, and gesturing options disabled. Is this a driver issue or is my touchpad defective?

Just uninstalling the trackpad software fixed the problem. The trackpad still works (apparently using the XP mouse driver) although I no longer have any of the options like disabling the tap = click control. But that tells me it's definitely a driver issue, not a hardware defect.

I thought it is the software issue how can Dell fix it I dont think it is a warranty issue...I dont see any touchpad recall.

I meant touchpad, not trackpad in my previous post. I've since gone to the Synaptics website (Drivers | Synaptics) and downloaded their generic 32-bit XP/Vista/7 driver (ver 14.0.3) and so far that was worked much better than the one posted on Dell's site. The random cursor jumping has stopped and I can disable the tapping feature now.

I have the same issue with an erratic cursor, although I don't use the trackpad, I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Can anyone advise if the reomval of the trackpad will still fix the problem, eventhough I'm not using the trackpad? And how do I uninstall the driver?

Many thanks
