Default Dell Mini 10 - Automation Options? - 12-02-2009, 10:37 PM

Is it possible to have a dell mini boot up at a given time and then power down at a given time?

or Hibernate and then Wake?

I tried chatting with a dell tech but go no where.... Looking for help.

I'm sure others have asked the same.

You can probably write a script that will put the computer to sleep, set it to run with task scheduler, then set up a task to run at the desired wake time, provided your using Windows. As far as the hardware doing this on it's own, no.

so would that be in a standby mode or using hibernation?

Where would I get such scripts, never used task scheduler before. Is that on windows XP already or something I have to download?

the scripts you would have to write yourself, maybe do a search for them if someone else written something like it, but as far as task manager goes it is already on windows in control panel under "scheduled tasks" just use the wizard all though it is basically meant for certain programs to kick off at a certain interval, you might be able to write a batch file for the machine to go into standby I am not sure that if you are in standby mode with task manager would continue to run, if it does than you could write another batch file for the system to awaken at a certain time and execute what ever actions next you may wasnt....Good Luck..

the command would be:

%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

In DOS, use the edit command and create what ever item name you want (ie. standby.bat)
then on line 1 key in the above command..then file the item, you should now have an item in your root directory called 'standy.bat' with the above command on line 1, then in task manager set up a task to run "standby.bat" at whatever time you want...getting it to wake back up maybe harder..I'll look into it and post further details if I find them.

EDIT: Here you go...check the below link..it describes the program that I have enclosed the link for:

Info:

Program to Wakeup and do tasks....task manager not needed:

Basically write the batch file as above to sleep and then use the program I provided to wakeup the computer and do what you want and then you can even have the system go back to standby again
