Default I hate the mini 10 touchpad - 11-28-2009, 12:05 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm using a Dell mini 10v with ubuntu 9.04 and the touchpad - or to be exact, the integrated mouse buttons - are driving me mad. I can't drag-n-drop things, because when I press and hold one mouse button, it interferes with the touchpad and moves the cursor entirely elsewhere.
I would like to ask if there's any way to build a mini9 touchpad into the mini10 or any other way to stop the mentioned thing from happening (useful suggestions like "get smaller fingers" aren't helping )

thanks,

E

ive seen some people take the 10's touchpad (which is supposed to be better?) and put it in the 10v. I dont thinnk putting the 9 in would be easy, but im sure its possible. You could use a mouse haha

Hehe, right. Well I'm using the mouse frequently, but when I'm on the road, that's one more thing to worry about (if it would fit my netbook sleve it wouldn't be such a big problem) but carrying it around kills kinda the idea of an ultraportable netbook..:/

you can tap on the trackpad instead of pressing the button (to drag and drop tap-long_tap).

I am very confortable with it now :-)

Default touch pad - 11-30-2009, 09:08 AM

I just installed win7 on my 10v

I did not install the synaptac touchpad drivers.

and i like the touchpad now.

I do not have the vertical scrolling on the right side of the mouse.

but having a usable touch pad, and being able to drag across multiple items makes it worth losing the vertical scrolling..

i just use the arrow keys to scroll up and down a web page.

Dell really f-ed up on the touchpad on the 10v

The Mini 10 touchpad (not the 10v) is MUCH better!!! Swapping the two over is pretty easy and there is a good guide for it in the forums. The reason it is such a good upgrade is that it is true multitouch and works properly even without any drivers. Without drivers it uses its built-in firmware to act like a 3 button mouse. That gives two-finger scrolling, two-finger middle click (i.e. open link in new tab etc.) and three-finger right click. The hardware buttons work properly and dont effect the touchpad at all but to be honest you only need to use the hardware left click when dragging and dropping over a long distance.

All this means that it works exactly the same no matter what operating system you are using. If you hate the original trackpad that much I would definitely upgrade to the 10's touchpad

Gonna look into this, my gf has a mini 10. She also complained about drag n drop functionality.

And now a question: why on earth does Dell ship the almost identical netbooks with *two* different sets of touchpads? Is that economical?

The Windows 7 driver on Dell's site fixes the touchpad where you can click and drag, and enables two-finger scrolling. It's really made the 10v touchpad usable for me.

I assume the touchpad in the 10v must be cheaper to procure (the V is supposed to stand for Value after all).
