Default Wireless internet problems; help! - 11-25-2009, 03:49 AM

Hi all,

I just got my Dell mini 10v with the 1510 wireless card. The wireless internet would not connect until several tries later, but then it was on and off, constantly disconnecting until it finally stopped working. I began to install Mac OS X SL, and again the wireless took several tries to connect. The speed was then super slow, and I am now confident that there is a loose connection inside after reading this thread: Mini 10v - Network Problem - Slow Connection - WiFi Timeout However, I have no idea where the wireless card is and how to take it apart, and what to do if it is loose? Thanks!

Turn the 10v over and the wireless card is underneath the only access panel on the bottom. The panel is secured by 1 screw and the card has 2 antenna connections and is held in place by 2 screws.

Thank you MikePA! I'll try it later and post with my results.

I successfully removed the panel, antenna cables, and the card. I then put everything back together. The black antenna cable was noticeably looser than the white one, is it possible that it is loose on the other side? After testing, the internet now works, but is very very slow. EDIT: Ok, now it is just like before, on and off. I did notice that on the Dell website it says the card is held in place by 2 screws, but my card is only held in by one. Any thoughts?

Have you tried rebooting your Access Point?

Thanks I'll try that... but all my other computers that are connected to the access point are working perfectly. I'll post my results in a bit...

I am betting it is your router that is the problem (configuration/settings). What type do you have?

Dell Mini 10v • Mac OSX 10.6.2 • 1 GB RAM • 160GB HDD • BIOS A05 • Blue Tooth • 1510 WLAN 802.11g /n

NBI 8.2 -> NBI 8.3RC2 -> NBI 8.3RC3 -> NBI 8.3RC5 -> NBI 8.3 alpha

USB Legacy Disabled | USB Wake Enabled | BT Enabled |

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. It is running dd-wrt.

The 1510 wireless n cards from Dell seem to be flaky. I know several people who have the exact same problem that you do, and there are various threads with similar problems. The fix seems to be to change the channel on your router to channel 11. Although this doesn't help if you want to use it at a hotel, coffee shop, etc. I guess some people don't have problems but based on my experience and what I've read on this board, I would not order a computer with this card.

Thanks royf! My internet is now very fast, could the problem be that at my time of posting last night there were 6 computers connected to the router (4 of which were connecting wirelessly, not counting my mini), 1 printer, and 1 hard drive? I'll be sure to try switching the router's channel, but are there any good replacement cards that I can buy for the mini?
