Default Clone a Mini10v Hackintosh - 11-19-2009, 01:50 AM

Thanks to you all, I have a successful hackintosh'ed 10.6.1 Mini 10v with the A05 bios. I have backed it up with Super Duper and Time Machine.

I need to make 2 more Mini 10v hackintoshes and would like a plan to "clone" the exisiting mini 10v. I (think) know Super Duper, Time Machine and Migration Assistant won't work because of the boot loader but someone must have a plan or can point me in the right direction. I have the machine working as I like it, I'd just like to clone it to the 2 new mini's rather than do 2 more Snow Leopard installs.

TIA,
Dave

You can easily clone of one drive to another identically sized drive with a single terminal command on any Unix-like OS. "sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb" will clone the first hard drive to the second on recent Ubuntu system, the OSX command would be the same except for the device names.

Simple disk cloning can cause problems when multiple computers on a network have the same IDs. The specific problems depend on OS, software, and settings (for a Windows-specific example, see Security Identifier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). I don't know what you need to worry about with OSX.

I plan on upgrading to a 320 GB 7200 rpm caviar black drive and will clone my current disc. I'm thinking since it's a clone, it ought to work fine. I'll report back once I perform the install...

Sorry, I mispoke. I want to make a "clone" of one machine to another without taking out the drive. Something like using firewire and disk mode when you migrate from one mac to another. I know there is no firewire on these machines and migration assistant won't work.

I don't want to disassemble the machines and I do have access to external USB storage devices.

Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Easiest way is to make a backup disk image from your good install onto your external USB drive, restore it to the new Mini's, and rerun NBI on the new Mini's. I did this with a Leopard disk image from a Mini 9 to a Mini 10v and it worked perfectly. Here's the thread about it:

Restore 10.5.7 Image from Mini9 to 10v

I'm looking to clone one disk to another but I have a dual boot system with an external USB drive that is the same as the exact drive I have in the 10v. Any help would be great!
