Default MacBook Air Hack for my 10v - 11-18-2009, 09:41 AM

so I hacked a Macbook air drive to work with the 10v for those on the go disc burning. Its pretty awesome cause it requires no external power.

I replaced the pata to usb controller to make it friendly on MacBook Airs.

Here you go:

new controller installed

My 10v

Proof it works:

My Dell 10v Specs...
Alpine White 1.66ghz N280 Atom
2gb Crucial RAM 80gb Intel X25-M 2G
1510 N Wi-fi OSX 10.6.2(10.6.1 kernel)
New Toy i7 iMac soon 1333mhz 8gb, possibly 160gb X25-M

Dear MiniMe10v.

Can you please give little more information on what exactly you did, and where to get the parts needed to do the same.

Thanks
??

This looks good, I'll make a front page worth blog post out of it if you could provide some more information!

Please do not send me support requests via PM.

Please post a guide and parts list to do this. I have a superdrive and would love to use it with my Mini 10 and Mini 10V.

This is interesting for the heck of it, but it seems rather pointless in general unless you happen to have one of these drives lying around. USB-powered DVD drives are readily available.

Yeah I don't think I'd throw down a hundy for a MBAir superdrive that didn't work with anything but the Air and the Mini/Mini Server and expect it to work with anything else unless I already had one lying around. I happen to have one so modding it seems like a good move to work with my Mini 10/10V...

Similar details, including the specific part used, are linked to on this post.

I did this mod myself. Pretty easy, just the four wires for the USB connection.
