Default Unable to make Changes in BIOS ver A05 - 11-12-2009, 05:16 PM

I can't be entirely sure when this problem began, but on my Mini 10v w/ Snow Leopard installed I am unable to make changes to most options in the BIOS. The only two options that are changeable are "Intel (R) SpeedStep(TM) Technology", "On Board Lan Control", ""Set HDD Password", and "Computrace"

I've attempted using F9 to reset to defaults and this doesn't give any feedback at all and doesn't make any changes. The options for "Load Setup Defaults" and "Discard Changes" aren't selectable in the "Exit" menu. Besides each of these options it says [Disabled] in grey.

In the "Boot" menu I notice that on the right side there is a description that says "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system Supervisor."

Does anyone know how to get around this? A search on google came back with little info, and none specific to the Mini 10V

Did you by chance downgrade the bios to install osx?

Dell Mini 10v • Mac OSX 10.6.2 • 1 GB RAM • 160GB HDD • BIOS A05 • Blue Tooth • 1510 WLAN 802.11g /n

NBI 8.2 -> NBI 8.3RC2 -> NBI 8.3RC3 -> NBI 8.3RC5 -> NBI 8.3 alpha

nope I haven't flashed the bios at all, it came with A05 when I bought it a couple months ago. I was initially able to change settings but somewhere along the line that access disappeared.

i have the exact same problem. I can't really figure out how it happened. I first noticed it using the A06 bios, which i then downgraded to A04 with no results. I also then upgraded to A05, again with no results. My only other thought is to open up the computer and remove the CMOS battery to maybe clear whatever's causing this to happen. Haven't had the time to try that yet.

i went ahead and called dell support and they told me i need to replace the motherboard. i can't really go without my mini for 2 weeks right now so i guess i've given up. i'd try clearing CMOS but i don't want to void my warranty and then be left stuck with an unchangeable BIOS. if you try this and it works please let me know, as I'd definitely prefer opening 'er up to sending in to Dell

i think i'm gonna just go ahead and send it back to dell. I've even had problems with the service tag. First it wasn't activated, then i contacted dell, who activated a different service tag to the one printed on the bottom, and also different from the one in the BIOS. I also don't really wanna void the warranty.
