Season's Greetings all and to Ppafford-
I bought the same but can't get it working (argggh!)... can you post the kext or explain which Ralink driver you used and whether you modified it? Really would like the bump in speed accessing the net, this little 10v is a really nice SL netbook.

Default Which AR928x card? - 12-15-2009, 12:30 PM

Hi,

I'm interested in putting an AR928x into a Dell mini 10. I want it to act as an access point and the Atheros cards support Master mode (or so I'm told). But I have a couple of questions:

Where did you get the card and do you have an exact reference to it on the web somewhere? They're hard to find.

I haven't yet bought my mini so I can't see the card size. Is it a "half" size card or a full size card?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hmm - for those of you here that have used the 5300 card in their 10v - what are you using to connect to the middle connector on the card ?

The 5300 comes with three ariel connectors and the 5100 has just two.

From what I can see here:
Documentation

the 10v only has two connectors for the WLAN port.

A third antenna, bought from eBay. Search for "tyco minipcie" You have to disassemble the lid to install it.

I've never bothered to attached a third aerial to any of my laptops with the Intel 5300 wireless card and it works just fine connecting at up to 300Mbps to my Edimax N router.

If the card is only going to be used with the built in antenna with just the two connections provided, then surely an Intel 5100 card will offer the same performance as the more expensive 5300 model?

Of course if you just happen to have a 5300 already, you are going to use it anyway!

When I had only two antennae connected to my 5300, the wireless N performance was erratic. It got much better when I added the third. I agree that if you're not going to add the third, the 5100 makes more sense if you have the choice.
