Default Windows 7 Starter Preinstalled - 10-27-2009, 04:18 PM

I ordered my 10V a couple of days ago. Choose the Windows 7 Starter even though my intent is to turn it into a hachintosh. The grandson needs a notebook to run some assistive technology that is written for OS X.

I ordered a couple of days ago and tracked today. Delivery Date 23 Nov. Didnt see that one coming.

I hadn't seen any threads or comments on preinstalled Windows 7 so I'm now thinking no one else has one yet.

At least it will give me some time to "prepare" for the forthcoming battle.

Nearly four weeks does sound a bit excessive, and also doesn't leave a lot of leeway if you are hoping to receive it before Christmas!

I guess you are right in assuming that no one else has received one yet either... but has anyone else actually ordered one, I wonder, and if so what delivery date have they been quoted?

Out of interest, this particular option is not even being offered here in the U.K. yet... or at least it wasn't the last time I looked!

Why spend an extra $30 for something your not going to use?
I did notice a W7 upgrade from Starter to Home Premium for $79 at Office Depot the other day though.

In building a Mini, you can't configure one with more than 1GB of RAM with W7S. FYI.

I don't know about anywhere else but Dell UK certainly prefer to "under-promise, over-deliver" - they quoted disappointing build and delivery times but then my 10v turned up a week and a half before they said it would. I'd rather they had given me an accurate delivery date, to be honest.

As long as you can run more than 3 apps now, Starter has no problems on netbooks. Of course, no DVD or Aero but who really needs that in a netbook?
